Past Wars/Present Issues: Learn, Understand, Act.

“Recent events have brought war back to the forefront of public debate. The wars in Ukraine and Gaza, the latent conflicts in eastern Congo, on the Indo-Pakistani border, and between Cambodia and Thailand, the civil war in Sudan and Burma are the daily subjects of news reports, including violence and sexual misconduct in the armed forces, the involvement of soldiers in radical political movements, and abuses perpetrated against prisoners and civilians. This fuels a growing demand for understanding the issues related to today’s armed conflicts and the complex relationships between armies and civil societies in order to be able to take a stand and act as informed citizens. Drawing on the expertise of its members and its international network, the UQÀM Strategic Chair in the History of War offers an annual series of interviews with historians whose expertise on the past sheds light on current debates on defense and security”.
